LIBRARY DESIGNATIONS

Designations refer to the Prefix or call number structure for each section of the Library Media Center.  These are site-specific, meaning they can vary from library to library.

The Prezi above assumes you are in the main seating area of the library. It takes you from there to each individual section of the collection. It will give you the designation for each section as well.

Only one section in the entire library has no prefix at all (it just has a Dewey number and three letters) and that section is NON-FICTION.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • For the Library Designations Prezi, click on above image.  It takes a little while to load.

  • Maximize the Prezi by clicking on the square at its bottom right corner that looks like a little window.

  • Select Allow.

  • Then click on the forward arrow at the bottom right to take a 'virtual tour' of the library, visiting every section by name and learning the call number designation for each.

NOTE: The Prezi has no sound.

  • When finished, click the bottom right button again to minimize the Prezi so that you can x out of it.

DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM VIDEO

Now that you are familiar with the sections of our Library and their designations, take a look at the video below about the Dewey numbers that serve as each book's "address."

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • First click on thumbnail above.,

  • Then click on the Play arrow.

  • Now maximize the video (bottom right).

NOTE: Make sure you have your speaker turned on as this one has sound.
